Kaden's Field Trip

Kaden's school, Voyage, set up a field trip to the Clinton Fire Station since it's about two blocks away from the school, so the kids could just walk there.  I volunteer every other Friday and this just happened to be one that Shane was off, so I went with them as well.

Hayden & Kaden.  Best buds.
The other kindergarten class went, so there were 41 kids total.  They were divided into three groups for the three different "stations."
First they got to watch a movie.
They watched a movie about fire safety that had Timon and Pumba in in, which was super smart because they all listened very closely.

She got down on the ground to show them how to crawl under smoke.

Next station was a tour of the station.

Mrs. LeFevre (K's teacher) listening intently.

Yes they have three fridges.

Showing his dirty room to the kids (it wasn't that dirty).

The last station was getting to see and learn about the fire trucks.

Ambulance inventory

This picture cracks me up.  See how the fireman is trying not to laugh?  He had just been explaining to the kids what some of the medical supplies were for and one asked what the scissors were there for.  Without thinking that he was talking to a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds, he automatically answered, "In case we need to cut someone's shirt or pants off."

*Cue loud, uncontrollable giggles*

He thought about what he'd said and tried to backpedal by talking about cutting a sleeve off of a broken arm, but it was too late.  The kids had already heard him say they cut off shirts and pants.

Anyway, it was a really fun little trip and each kid left with a coloring book, crayons, pencil, and sticker.  Very informative and fun!

Suzanna's Shower

My older sister, Suzanna, is having her third child, but first boy.  Her sister-in-law, Wendy, wanted to throw a shower for her to help out with the clothes (and y'know, everything else), but didn't want to make everyone drive to Lehi (her house) for the shower.  Suzanna asked if I would have it at my house.  After trying to come up with every excuse in the book and being shot down, I agreed.  Wendy and I figured out a date that worked for both of us and began planning.  Suzanna gave me 43 names to send invites to.  43.  No problem.  I can handle that.  Until the week before the shower when I asked Suzanna if she'd handed any out to her ward like she had talked about and she said yes, but wouldn't tell me a number.  That worried me.  Turns out, she handed out an additional 45 (!!!!) invites!!!!!

NINETY-THREE PEOPLE WERE INVITED TO MY HOUSE AT THE SAME TIME!!

Needless to say, I was irked and reamed her for it, then was like, "I'm gonna tell Wendy on you!  She's gonna be soooo mad!" Cause I'm mature like that.

Wendy and I figured out the seating and food situation and handled that little disaster, but I'm still mad at Suzanna for inviting the whole world to her baby shower.

Anyway, the shower was this past weekend and went very well.  A TON of people came, but I sat on the couch and let Wendy stress about it instead of me.  :)

Look like enough for 93 people???

Wendy made these favors for the guests.  I would have gotten the ones with almonds, because...well, Suzanna's having a boy...with nuts.  Bahahaha

The bottom sign says "Jared."
I didn't make these.

Wendy and Suzanna
Wendy did all the hard work.  I just cleaned my house (no easy feat, though).  ;)
And I will never again allow that many people inside my house at the same time.

Mission

My little sister, Natalie, will be 22 next week and she decided a few months back to go on a mission.  She finally got her call and we were there for when she opened it.

Along with everyone else she's ever met or heard about....

Her friend Peter face-timing their bishop who was stuck at work.

Opening....

Reading Skimming...
*Cue large amounts of jumping and shrieking*

She has been called to serve in the Independence, Missouri mission (English speaking, FYI) and will report on April 16th.  She's so excited and has been shopping with my mom for all of the gear she needs.  She'll do great!

Ryley's birthday

Shane's sister, Valerie, is my age.  We went to junior high and high school together, although we never ran with the same circle of friends.  Now that she's my sister-in-law, though, we love each other.  ;)  No, really, though, she's awesome and we've bonded.  Anyway, Val's husband, Bryan, and their daughter, Ryley have the same birthday: January 5th.  We always do a combined party with the emphasis being on Ryley (at Bryan's insistence).  Anyway, Ryley chose a princess pirate theme this year and Val did such a good job with it.  Everything turned out so cute.

The birthday girl!  She turned 3.

The invite said to dress up, so my kids were SO excited to play dress up.

Ryley loves La La Loopsy dolls and I found one that was a pirate princess.  Cause I'm that good.
It was a great party (with two cakes!) and my kids never wanted to leave Ry's house.  Other kids always have better toys than theirs.  Even if it's the same toys.

Happy New Year!!

We had some friends over last night for New Year's Eve.  We got them the game Headbandz for Christmas, so we decided to try it out with them.  It's basically like 20 questions.

Jess and baby Brielle.

Sometime during the evening, all the kids were playing in the basement and all of a sudden I hear Kaden come screaming and running up the stairs so loudly that I thought someone had broken an arm or seen a spider. (Yes, those are the same level of scream in this house.)

Instead, though, he came running into the kitchen holding his hand out to me to show he'd finally lost his first tooth!!!

It was bleeding a bit, of course, and I took a picture right away and posted that to Facebook.  But here's a picture from this morning when it had healed a bit.

He was so, so excited!  The tooth could lay completely flat, so I knew it would be soon.  He said that he was talking and said the word "first" and on the "st" he bit down and broke his tooth off.  hahaha  I explained that he didn't break it off, but that it was ready to fall out.  The one next to it has been wiggly as well, so we might be seeing the tooth fairy again fairly soon.

Don't ever do sparkles.  Ever.
